Girls in Car Charged With Heroin, Crack; Man Steals Handbag at Bloomingdales: Newton Police Log
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 4
- Police responded to Wiltshire Road for past larceny of a license plate. The victim reported that sometime in the morning someone stole his license plate off his 2012 black Dodge Ram truck.
- Police entered the rear parking area of Commonwealth Ave. and immediately noticed a car to the right that was occupied. This area is often patrolled on the weekends, and it is unusual to see any other cars in the lot. When police spotted the car, they noticed it was occupied at least three times and all occupants were moving about the vehicle very quickly. It raised suspicion. Police approached the driver’s side of the car and saw a female driver, with a female sitting directly behind her in the rear seat, and a male sitting in the rear passenger’s seat. Officers asked the female in the driver’s seat for her license at least five times, and she kept repeating that she was not driving the car. During the conversation, police saw the two in the rear seat to be moving about and the male had his pants unbuttoned and zipper down. The female said she had a needle in her side pocket. In that same pocket, police found a white, plastic spoon with a rolled up brown ball believed to be heroin in the middle of the spoon and five disposed needles. Police found an ID in her handbag along with approximately 20 hypodermic needles (disposed). Both parties had active warrants out of Woburn, DC. Both were placed under arrest. Jennifer Ann Hewitt, 20, 2 Adams Road, Ashland, was arrested and charged with obstruction, a warrant, possession of Class B substance. A sergeant found a white rock substance believed to be crack on the floor of the front driver’s side and a crack pipe in her handbag. Valerie Casella, 20, 76 Mokema Ave., Waltham, was arrested and charged on a warrant of possession to distribute Class B drugs, conspiracy to violate drug laws. She was also charged on a warrant, obstruction and Class A substance.
- Police responded to Bloomingdales for a shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention said that he saw a Hispanic male, later identified, take a handbag and wallet ($346) and attempt to leave the store without paying. Police advised the party he would be seeking charges.
