Greater Boston School Rankings: Newton South Tops Newton North

Newton South High School bested Newton North High School in a survey of the best public high schools in the Greater Boston area, according to rankings by Boston Magazine.

Newton South was ranked No. 5; Newton North was ranked No. 26. Dover-Sherborn High School was ranked No. 1.

The rankings were based on test scores, graduation rates, and per-pupil spending, among other factors.

• Average class size: 16.1/16.6
• Per-pupil spending: $16,400/$16,400
• Graduation rate: 98.1/95.4
• Percent of graduates going to college: 84.5/95.4
