NEWTON, MA — At a public meeting Wednesday, the MBTA Newton Commuter Rail Stations Accessibility Project team released renderings of what the city's new stations in Auburndale, West Newton, and Newtonville could look like.

According to the 30% Design revealed at this week's meeting, each station will have two fully accessible, high-level side platforms at each station with elevators and accessible pathways to each platform from the adjacent sidewalk and parking areas.

Newton's current stations are in disrepair and are inaccessible due to low-level platforms that can only be reached via stairways. The goal for the upcoming project is to provide fully accessible stations, upgrade amenities, and improve connections to existing roads and parking areas.

According to the MBTA, construction on all three commuter rail stations could be completed in seven years, and accessible platforms on the northside of the tracks at all three stations could be completed even sooner.

The architectural plans for all three stations are available here. Anyone with questions can email NewtonCR@mbta.com.
