Historic Newton Presents Grammy Winner Lisa Fischer In Concert
Powerhouse Vocalist Performs April 1 at Newton North High School.
Historic Newton, a non-profit organization that encourages exploration of Newton, MA within the broad context of American history, will present Grammy-Award winning vocalist Lisa Fischer with the band Grand Baton in a fundraising concert on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Newton North High School. Tickets for the show begin at $55 and are on sale now here.
In 1992, Fischer won a Grammy Award for the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her single How Can I Ease the Pain, off her debut album So Intense. Her powerhouse voice led her onstage with the Rolling Stones. She has joined every one of their tours since 1989 and often shares lead vocals with Mick Jagger on hits such as Gimme Shelter.
Fischer is known as one of the most successful session vocalists of her time, singing with Luther Vandross, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin and Sting, and performing live with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti and the rock band Nine Inch Nails, among many others.

In 2013, Fischer starred in the Oscar-winning documentary film 20 Feet from Stardom, highlighting the lives of the women who performed as back-up singers. In addition to the Oscar, the film won Best Documentary Film at the 19th Critics Choice Awards and Best Music Film at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
Fischer now headlines concerts around the world, where she believes her greatest gift is the ability to connect, to reach the hearts of her listeners.

Tickets for the show range from $55 and $85. Sponsorship tickets, which include premier seats and a post-concert wine and dessert reception with Lisa Fischer, begin at $150.
Proceeds from the Lisa Fischer concert will support the work of Historic Newton, which encourages exploration of the history of Newton, Massachusetts within the context of the wider American story. Historic Newton operates two museums: The Jackson Homestead (which was a stop on the Underground Railroad) and the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds. Along with presenting educational programs to school groups, Historic Newton sponsors lectures, workshops, walking tours and many other public programs.
