ICYMI: Meet the Newton Police Department's Newest Officers

Four new recruits were sworn in Thursday afternoon.

NEWTON, MA – The Newton Police Department welcomed four new officers at a swearing in ceremony Thursday afternoon.

All four are homegrown – hailing from Newton or nearby communities – and two are graduates of Newton North High School. They were surrounded by friends, family and police and city officials as they received their badges Thursday.

Officer Reid T. Larson was born in the City of Quincy. His parents are Carl A. Larson Jr. and Chandra Larson. He attended North Quincy High School and graduated in 2005. After graduating he joined the U.S. ARMY for 4 years where he served 1 year overseas in Iraq with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment out of FT. Hood, Texas. Upon leaving Active duty service he moved to Newton with his wife, Kaitlyn Larson, who is a Newton native. He then joined the Army National Guard and is currently with the 1-101st Field Artillery Regiment. Once he transitioned into civilian life he attended school at Quincy College receiving degrees both in criminal justice & security management. Shortly after he completed school he took the civil service test and got acceptance as a student officer at the Lowell Police Academy representing the Newton Police Department. His wife, Kaitlyn, pinned his badge Thursday.

Officer Allan L. Ciccone III graduated Needham High School in 2007. He attended Johnson & Wales University and received an associate’s degree in accounting. He has a young daughter and a wife. Prior to being hired as a police officer, Allan worked as a 911 Dispatcher in Newton since 2012. He has received acknowledgement for a 911 call where he gave CPR instructions over the phone that helped parents save their infant son. His father, Newton City Councilor Allan (Jay) Ciccone Jr., pinned his badge Thursday.

Officer Scott Siegal graduated from Newton North High School in 2006. Raised in Newton his entire life, he always aspired to be a police officer. Officer Siegal’s other life passions are sports, playing on various teams in almost every sport growing up. His biggest athletic accomplishment was playing for and winning the Super bowl with the New England Hawks his first year of seven career seasons in semi-pro football. Prior to being hired as a police officer, he worked several years as a HVAC duct installer and spent four years working on several farms in MA picking up many skills over the years. His brother, Newton police officer Derek Siegal, pinned his badge Thursday.

Officer Thomas J. Bannon grew up in West Newton with his parents, Tom and Cathy Bannon, and his brother, Brian. He graduated from Newton North High School in 2004. Officer Bannon is a graduate of Plymouth State University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Prior to being hired as a Police Officer he spent time working for the Newton Public Schools, Arlington Boys and Girls Club and Williams After School Club in Newton. He would like to thank his family and friends for all the love and support they have given him throughout this process. His mother, Cathy, pinned his badge Thursday.
