Maestro Khanukaev moved to Israel in 1991, where he has conducted leading Israeli orchestras and opera houses, including the Jeruslem, Tel-Aviv, and Haifa Symphony Orchestras, and The Israeli Symfonietta.  He also held the position of Music Director with the Israel “Camerata” and “Classica” orchestras, appearing with these orchestras throughout Israel and also abroad in Germany, Belgium, and other countries.

Sergey's recordings with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, “Camerata”, and “Classica” Orchestras are aired on the Israel Broadcasting Authority.

As an operatic conductor, he has appeared in leading opera houses, including the Moscow Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Opera, New Israeli Opera, and the Voronezh State Opera.

...and now around the world

His return to the Russian music-stage, now as an Israeli, took place at Moscow’s Helikon Opera.

Sergey Khanukaev made his Boston debut in 2001 with the BU Chamber and Symphony orchestras, while continuing appearances outside of USA.  In 2010, he received a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Boston University.

Current Projects

As the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Tomsk Philharmonic Orchestra, he recently took part in the festival “Our Heritage” in New York, conducting the production of the “Marriage of Figaro” at Alexander Prokhorov’s studio “Lucky Ten”.

Maestro Khanukaev has presented the premiers of many new works by modern Russian, Israeli, and American composers.  He initiated and implemented a CD of the music of contemporary Israeli composers (including B.-Z. Orgad, M. Kopytman, Y. Talmi, P. Ben-Haim, etc.) which has been released by the “Classica” orchestra in collaboration with The Israeli Music Institute.
