Man Arrested for OUI After Falling Asleep in Parked Car, Ford Reported Stolen from Hotel: Newton Crime Logs

Tuesday, August 23

• Nicolau de Andrade, 59, of Dorchester was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol and driving with an open container of alcohol after police responded to Canterbury Street for a report of a motor vehicle operating with a flat tire. Officers observed a blue Chrysler van parked on the side of Route 9 across from Meredith Avenue. The back right tire of the van was flat, police said. Its lights were off and it was parked in unsafe conditions with low visibility on the side of the roadway, as the street lights were not illuminated. Police approached the driver's side of the vehicle and saw the driver, identified as Nicolau Andrade, slumped over in the driver's seat asleep. Police placed Andrade under arrest.

• A past vandalism of a motor vehicle was reported on Farwell Street. The caller said that at approximately 4:50 a.m. he noticed the front and rear tires on the driver's side of his car had been slashed and there were scratch marks down the driver's side of the vehicle. He reported a black Magellan GPS stolen from the back seat as well.

• A past larceny was reported at the AT&T store on Boylston Street. The caller said that a man entered the store, cut the cords of two display phones and took them before fleeing the store. The suspect is described as a black male in his early to mid-twenties, about 5 foot 10 inches tall with a thin build, wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and white tennis shoes.

Wednesday, August 24

• Police responded to Hotel Indigo for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The caller said she went out to her car around 10 p.m. and did not notice anything suspicious. Upon returning the following morning around 8 a.m., she noticed the vehicle, a white 2014 Ford Edge, was missing.

• A past suspicious event was reported on Oak Street. The caller said that at approximately 10:30 a.m. he was alerted to movement near his back door by cameras he had set up. About 30 minutes later he checked the cameras and saw a white male, approximately 20 to 25 years old, wearing a blue Patriots hat, white t-shirt, blue jeans and rectangular glasses, approach his back porch and attempt to open the rear door. The subject failed to enter and no damage was reported.

• A purse was reported stolen on Christina Street. The caller said she left her purse in the passenger compartment of a vehicle parked by The Depot Cafe. She said she last saw her purse in the car at about 8:30 a.m. and returned an hour later to notice it missing. She told police the vehicle was locked.

• A caller said he locked his brown Trek Urban Sport bike to a parking meter in the area of Boston Ballet on Washington Street around 7:30 p.m. When he returned he saw that his cable lock had been cut and his bicycle was gone.
