Man Arrested on Warrants in Three Towns, Christmas Presents Stolen from Car, Alleged Shoplifter Thwarted: Newton Crime Log

Wednesday, Dec. 14
• John Penta, 22, of Newton, turned himself in on multiple warrants. Penta had the following warrants out for his arrest:

Boston - leaving the scene of property damage
Waltham - possession of a Class B substance (two counts), possession of a Class E substance, marked lanes violation, failure to signal, failure to yield at an intersection

Newton - larceny under $250, destruction of property, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
• Police responded to the parking lot of the 2200 Block of Washington Street for a past breaking and entering to a motor vehicle. The rear passenger side window was broken, and the caller said a new silver espresso machine was taken from the rear seat.
• While police were taking the above report on Washington Street, another resident reported a damaged motor vehicle. The rear passenger side small window was broken, but it appeared that the vehicle was not entered nor was anything taken.
• A caller said his vehicle was broken into in the parking lot of the 2200 Block of Washington Street sometime between 10:30 p.m. the previous night and 9 a.m. that morning. The rear passenger side window was smashed and a bag of his children's Christmas toys was taken. The toys ranged from Legos to Spongebob Squarepants items.
• A caller on Cherry Street stated that sometime overnight the rear windshield of his car was broken. Nothing was stolen.
Friday, Dec. 16
• Police responded to an attempted shoplifting at Bloomingdale's. The suspect was described as a black female, roughly 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-3-inches tall with long black hair a bangs, wearing light-colored ripped jeans, UGG boots and black glasses. She allegedly attempted to steal four Moncler jackets by placing two in a bag and two under her arm. Employees identified her as someone who had reportedly shoplifted from the store before and tried to approach her. She left her bags and left the store, employees told police.
• Police responded to a past larceny at Tedeschi's on Centre Street. The suspect, a 26-year-old male, allegedly stole three cigarette lighters and cash from a donation box on the front counter. He has been summoned to Newton District Court on charges of shoplifting and larceny under $250.
• A past vandalism to a vending machine at Oak Hill Middle School was reported.
Sunday, Dec. 18
• A larceny of a cell phone was reported at the YMCA. The caller said he left his cell phone on a bench in the gym while he played basketball and it was gone when he checked on it a short time later.
