Man Calls Newton Police After Ex-Girlfriend Keys Car

The following are excepts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 13

  • Thieves reportedly used a hacksaw to cut into a service van on Rumford Avenue and steal copper tubing.
  • A woman reported she was involved in a check fraud case involving a “Moneypak” card.

Aug. 14

  • A backpack blower was reportedly stolen near Bullough Park.
  • A man reported his ex-girlfriend keyed his car after an argument on Wilson Circle. Police responded and the woman denied damaging the car. Police said they planned to charge her with malicious destruction to a car.
  • A 45-year-old man from Boston was charged with larceny at the Marshalls store on Needham Street. Police said they found him carrying two sets of pliers and a box cutter to cut security tags off merchandise.
  • A 63-year-old woman was charged with shoplifting at the Star Market on Boylston Street.
  • A “tall white male” in a gray suit and fedora reportedly stole leather jackets from the Marshalls store on Needham Street.
  • Thomas Taylor, 40, of Newton, was charged with OUI, leaving the scene of a crash, and a lane violation. Police said he hit a vehicle near Green Street at about 10 p.m. then fled the scene. Officers said they found his vehicle parked behind his home with fresh damage to the front end.
