Man With Italian Accent, Fedora, Snatches Wallet in TJ Maxx: Newton Police

NEWTON, MA - The following are excerpts from the Newton police log.
Nov. 15
- A woman said she was shopping in the TJ Maxx on Needham Street. At some point, she said she was shopping in the coat section and she was approached by a man who started asking her about what style of coat he should buy for his girlfriend. The man is described as white, between 25-30, 5â9â, slim, and wearing a fedora. She said that he spoke with a heavy, possibly-Italian, accent. She said the man stood very close to her when he spoke. When she went to the register she couldnât find her wallet that was in her open pocketbook. She believes the man removed her wallet while he was talking. It contained several credit cards. One of them was used to charge $2,600 later at Macyâs.
- Police responded to Hunter Street to make an arrest on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime, malicious destruction of property. Michael McKenzie, 31, 42 Porter St., Natick, was arrested and charged with the aforementioned charges.
