A 79-year-old Newton man was stabbed at a grocery store in Auburndale, police told Patch.

NEWTON, MA — A 23-year-old Newton man walked into the Star Market in Auburndale and while he was in the grocery store stabbed a 79-year-old Newton man in what police said was random incident.
Matthew Muradov was arraigned in Newton District Court Tuesday. According to a court clinician he had a history of mental illness and had been released from a psych ward in a hospital just three days before the Star Market stabbing.
"We do not believe the parties knew each other," said Lt. Bruce Apothekar Monday after Muradov stabbed an older man with a kitchen knife, sending the gentleman to the hospital with what police believe are non life-threatening injuries.
