Man Throws Stapler, Hits Lamp, at Crate & Barrel: Newton Police

NEWTON, MA –– The following are excerpts from the Newton police log.

Dec. 6

  • Police responded to 55 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, (City Sports) for a report of shoplifting. Police were met by a security officer who said that four individuals were in the store that they had recognized seeing on a previous date. They were described as one white female with blond hair and medium build, one white female with brown hair and medium build, one female teenager with glasses and one male teenager. The blond woman entered the Pottery Barn at 55 Boylston St. and stole a gray fur blanket from a display. The woman, 47, from Cambridge was charged with larceny under $250.
  • Police responded to 199 Boylston St. (Crate & Barrel) for a report of an irate customer. En route to the call, dispatch updated that the customer had fled the property in a gray Nissan sedan, toward Route 9. Prior to officers arrival, there was an altercation with a customer. The customer was described as a black male, thin build, approximately 6’1” with long dreads, facial hair and well dressed. The customer was trying to return an item and became enraged with how he felt he was being treated. The man began to raise his voice and shout at employees and other customers. The man then threw a stapler over an employee’s head, smashing a lamp. The employee told him she was calling police and he needed to leave. The employee told police that the man was in the store the previous Wednesday and was acting strangely and smelled of alcohol. The woman contacted loss prevention about the incident and he advised her that there was a problem with her last year in the Natick store and he was advised not to stop there anymore. Police are seeking charges against the man, 33, from Milford, for malicious destruction of property under $250.
  • Police responded to 22 Langley Road (Walgreens) for a suspicious vehicle. When police got there, they spotted a black Ford F350, which was reported stolen the night before from Southborough. The vehicle was intact. The vehicle was towed by Tody’s.
