Middlesex Grand Jury Indictment: One Newton Case Announced

A Rhode Island woman charged with larceny, money laundering and false entry into corporate books was indicted by a grand jury.

NEWTON, MA - Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Wednesday the grand jury indictments from April 26 to May 10.

Included in the indictments is a Rhode Island woman charged with embezzling money from a Newton real estate company where she worked as an office manager.

"The defendant allegedly devised a Ponzi scheme by transferring money from different accounts to conceal shortages of funds," Ryan said in a May press release announcing the woman's arraignment. "This case highlights the importance of the need for companies to closely monitor their finances. Oversight of bookkeepers and accountants is critical to insuring that companies do not fall victim to theft."

Maureen Sheehan, 46, of North Kingston, Rhode Island, was charged with larceny over $250 (2 counts), money laundering (2 counts), and false entry into corporate books. The Assistant District Attorney is Doug Cannon.
