Missing Newton Man Alive, But Not Yet Found: Newton Police

Waltham Police helped look for the Newton man who went missing Sunday night. But he's still missing.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton man police have been looking for since the weekend after they found his car in Waltham is reportedly alive, according to Newton and Waltham Police who helped in the investigation. But he's still missing, contrary to an earlier Patch report.

Newton Police say they have reason to believe he's still alive but he has not yet been found but are still asking for the public's help in finding him.

Police said earlier that they were concerned about the man who disappeared Sunday and asked for the public's help in finding him but as of Tuesday morning they had stopped looking for the 57-year old man who worked in Waltham, as he had reportedly left Waltham, they said.

Waltham Police say Thomas Astore's car was found near the area of Sawyer Road Sunday night, which spurred the search that lasted for at least 24 hours. Newton Police are asking if anyone has information about Astore to please call them.

[[Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said he was found safe. While Police believed they knew where he was and that he was alive and not in Waltham, he has not returned home and the investigation is ongoing, say police. Patch misheard and regrets the confusion.]]
