Three Firefighters Injured in Newton Blaze

One minor wrist injury, a minor back injury and a heat-related condition were reported, according to the Newton Fire Department.

Newton, MA – Three firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a three-alarm house fire in Newton Monday afternoon.

One minor wrist injury, a minor back injury and a heat-related condition were reported, according to a tweet from the Newton Fire Department.

Newton Fire Department spokesman Lt. Eric Fricke told the Boston Globe that none of the injuries are expected to be life-threatening.

The fire began in the attic of 16 Merrill Rd. around 1:30 p.m. and was quickly upgraded to two alarms. A third alarm was added at 2 p.m., according to a Newton Fire Department tweet.

The blaze was knocked down around 3:45 p.m., fire officials confirmed on Twitter.

Fricke told the Globe that people were home at the time of the fire, but they fled the home before firefighters arrived.
