Mysterious Russian Lady Suspected In B&E: Newton Police Log
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16.

Friday, October 14
• A past vandalism was reported at the Newtonville Gulf, 650 Washington St. A woman called and said sometime overnight the passenger side tires of her red Subaru Outback station wagon were slashed. The vehicle was parked in her driveway on Carter Street.

• A 44-year-old Boston man was arrested and charged with larceny of property under $250 and receiving property under $250 after nearby contractors said they saw him take a box from a Beacon Street residence. The contractors, working outside of a house on Beacon Street, flagged down a Newton officer and said they saw a man take two packages off of the front porch of a residence and walk off with one. He was described as a white male, possibly intoxicated, 6 feet tall and wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans with a rip in the back pocket and carrying an orange Nike bag. He allegedly briefly disappeared onto a side street and was later spotted on Beacon Street. The cardboard box was found ripped open, empty and discarded in a nearby front yard. A ripped open plastic package was ripped open as well.
• Police responded to the area of Crofton Road and Waban Avenue for a report of a car striking a telephone pole. The front bumper was recovered, and officers traced it to a residence on Nehoiden Road in Waban. The driver was cited for leaving the scene of property damage.

Saturday, October 15
• Police monitoring traffic at the intersection of Washington Street and Walnut Street pulled over a driver for making an unsafe left turn onto Walnut Street. The driver, identified as Rodrigo Barrera-Cardona, 45, told police he did not have a valid driver's license. Police learned that Barrera-Cardona had a warrant for his arrest out of Concord District Court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. He was placed under arrest for the warrant charges.
• A breaking and entering in progress was reported on Boylston Street. The caller, shaken up and frightened, told police that around 5 p.m. she came home from work and attempted to enter her home. A woman she did not know, about 20 or 21 years old, wearing a grey sleeveless sweater, black leggings and sneakers, walked out of the home, she said. The caller noticed that the sweater the woman was wearing belonged to her, as well as the items she was carrying. She told the caller in English that she was "late picking up her kids" and immediately switched to Russian, saying, "let me go, this is my stuff."
The caller grabbed one of the bags from the woman, which contained a laptop. The woman left with the other bag, which was filled with clothes. She got into a waiting taxi and left westbound on Rt. 9. The taxi company said the woman had exited the behicle by the Double Tree hotel in Cambridge. Police found the rest of the caller's belongings, though the woman was not caught.
• Daniel Grew, 31, was arrested on a warrant charge of failing to appear on a probation violation.
Sunday, October 16
• A Brighton man was arrested after a police search for a stolen car out of a tow yard in Brighton. The vehicle was a grey Audi, and a tow truck driver from the yard was following it. Police found the cars stopped at the intersection of Washington and Prospect streets. The tow operator turned on his yellow oscillating lights and the driver opened the door and yelled "That's the car!" Police pulled the car over and arrested (removed), who was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of alcohol and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
