Mystery Man Breaks Into Netwon Home, Police Search On

A man broke into a Grant Avenue home this week and now Newton Police are on the lookout.

Newton Police are on the lookout for a man they describe as about 25-years old and clean shaven who they say may have broken into a Grant Avenue home in the wee hours of April 16.

"Nothing of value was taken," said Lt. Bruce Apotheker, a spokesperson for the Newton Police Department.

Because it was dark, the Grant Avenue resident who reported the break in didn't get the best look at the man in his home, according to police. However, police said if anyone saw anything suspicious near Grant Avenue around 4 a.m. to let them know, as an investigation is ongoing.

Here's what police said happened: A Grant Avenue resident woke up in the middle of the night and heard footsteps and creaking floorboards downstairs. He got up and stood in the doorway to his second floor bedroom and heard someone wandering around downstairs. While he was standing there, he saw the figure of a man heading up the stairs.

The Grant Avenue resident told police later that he didn't want the intruder to now he was alone so he started yelling something. The police didn't release what it was he yelled, citing the ongoing investigation, but it apparently scared the man coming up the stairs, because he turned and ran down the stairs and out of the house.

Newton Police searched the area but came up dry, according to police.
