NEWTON, MA — NewCommunity Inc., a community development organization that supports local philanthropic efforts, has announced the launch of Newton's Food Insecurity Awareness Week, set to take place Sunday, August 22 through Saturday, August 28.

The event, which is being held in partnership with Newton Food Pantry, Centre Street Food Pantry, Lasell University, Newton Community Farm, and the City of Newton, is designed to teach people of all ages to engage, advocate, and contribute to the solution to provide community access to healthy food.

“Food insecurity is right here in our backyard," said Rev. Devlin Scott, pastor of NewCity Church and found of NewCommunity Inc., in a statement. "Not being able to have a nutritious meal is a reality in households in our neighborhoods everyday. With NewtonEats, we want to raise the collective consciousness of Newtonians to understand the realities of food insecurity.”
