Newton Actor Comes Home for the Holidays

Two-time Tony Award-winner and Newton native Robert Morse narrates "Twas the Night Before Christmas" for the Boston Pops holiday special.

NEWTON, MA – You may know Robert Morse from his role as Bertram Cooper on "Mad Men" – which earned him a primetime Emmy nom – or for his Tony Award-winning turns as J. Pierrepont Finch in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and Truman Capote in "Tru," but the 85-year-old cut his teeth in the drama program at Newton High School.

Now, the Newton native returns home for "Happy Holidays With the Boston Pops" on PBS. Morse joins a lineup that includes country star Sara Evans, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and vocalist Justin Hopkins, narrating the classic poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas."

The special airs Dec. 17, 22 and 25 on WGBH and on WGBX Dec. 24.

Narrating the holiday staple was a no-brainer for Morse, who told the Newton TAB his wife always insisted he read the poem to his kids.

The veteran stage actor returned to Broadway this year for the revival of "The Front Page," but said in a TAB interview that save for maybe Broadway, there's nothing like performing with the Boston Pops.
