Newton Actors Wanted: Adaptation of Daring Slave Escape

Boston Casting Call is seeking talent for the true story of a Confederate ship takeover on "The Folklorist."

NEWTON, MA - NewTV is looking for actors for its Emmy award-winning program "The Folklorist."

The show is adapting the story of Robert Smalls, a slave who orchestrated the seizure of a Confederate ship while its officers spent the night ashore.

Smalls was left at the helm of a military transport by the officers; while they slept he and seven of the eight enslaved crewmen steered the ship past five Confederate forts, stopping only once to rescue their families. They eventually reached a Union blockade and were granted freedom.
