Newton Bank Robbery Results in MBTA Delays

Police activity following a robbery at Village Bank on Wyman Street caused moderate delays on the Green Line D branch.

NEWTON, MA - A Friday afternoon bank robbery in Newton resulted in delays along the D branch of the Green Line while police investigated the scene.

Police received a call from Village Bank on Wyman Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Friday of a reported bank robbery, Newton Police spokesman Lt. Bruce Apotheker told Patch.

Apotheker said a man allegedly passed a note to a teller at the bank claiming he had a weapon, though he did not display it, and fled the scene with an unspecified amount of money.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 18 years old and wearing a black hoodie and ripped jeans, according to Apotheker.

Police activity at the scene caused moderate delays on the D branch of the Green Line, according to an MBTA tweet.
