Newton Board Game Developers, Film Producer Looking for Support Through Kickstarter

A few creative minds in Newton are hoping to produce a new board game -- but they could use your help. 

The Fallen City of Karez is one of several Newton projects up for funding on Kickstarter, an online platform where entrepreneurs can ask for pledges to support their projects.

The board game is hoping to reach a goal of $20,000 by Mon., August 13. So far, just over $2,700 has been pledged.

When someone makes a pledge (or "backs the project") he or she is promised some kind of reward when the project is finished.

For example, the documentary film No Equal: The Trials of America's Female Soldier, which is , is offering a gift of t-shirts, pins and stickers to those supporters who pledge $49 or more on Kickstarter.

No Equal is aiming for a $10,000 funding goal by Sat., September 8. It is currently 10 percent funded with just over $1,000 pledged.

So what's the catch? Well, if a project does not reach its funding goal by the set deadline, the project is not funded.

No Equal and the Fallen City of Karez are the only two active Newton projects on Kickstarter at this time, but there have been a number of local success stories in the past. 

Singer/songwriter Krista Baroni reached her Kickstarter funding goal to record her first full-length record, Oh My Magpie. 

, a film shot at the old Newton North, successfully reached its funding goal in 2010 through Kickstarter.
