Newton To Celebrate Indian Culture With Flag Raising, Picnic
The events are being held to commemorate India's 75th Independence Day.

NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton will celebrate Indian culture with an Indian flag raising on Friday, August 13 and community picnic on Sunday, August 15.
The events are being held to commemorate India's Independence Day, which is the day when British colonial rule ended after 200 years of occupation. August 15, 2021 marks the country's 75th Independence Day and is significant to many Indian residents in Massachusetts.
To kick off the celebration, Mayor Ruthanne Fuller will raise the Indian flag outside of City Hall on Friday at 2 p.m.

Then, on Sunday, Indian dance, music, art, and culture will be featured at the Hyde Community Center bandstand from noon to 3 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend with their families and pack a picnic lunch.
