Newton To Celebrate Small Business Saturday

Don't forget to go out and support the local mom and pop shops around town this season.

NEWTON, MA — This weekend is Small Business Saturday. Although relatively new, the annual holiday shopping tradition encourages folks to buy local ahead of the big gift shopping season. With giant shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday ruled by the big guys, this is an effort to help keep mom and pops in business.

American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked.

The idea is that with so many people buzzing around the holidays as they look for those perfect holiday gifts, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy.
