Newton Cop Log: Salon Break-In Foiled; Multiple IRS Scams
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Mon., Sept. 15
- Michael Thornton, 25, of Norwood was charged with two counts of destruction of property and resisting arrest. Workers at a salon on Beacon Street called police, saying Thornton was trying to break into the business. A responding officer found him with lacerations on his hands, wrists, and head. Glass windows and a door at the business were broken.
Wed., Sept. 17
- A resident of Gray Cliff Road said someone broke into her home and stole her daughter’s jewelry.
- A woman on Kendall Terrace said someone claiming to be from the IRS called her and said if she didn’t send him $3,600 she would be arrested. Police told her it was a scam.
- A man on Needham Street said he was the target of a similar IRS scam.
