Newton Cop Log: Man Tries to Steal 99 Gift Cards from Wegmans; Drunk Men Refuse to Pay Cab Driver; Vehicle Break-Ins

Thur., Oct. 23

• A taxi driver called police from the Crowne Plaza hotel, saying a pair of drunk men refused to pay their fare. The men finally used a credit card to pay, ending the dispute.
• A man reported someone tried to break into his 2008 Cadillac on West Street by trying to break the sun roof.
• A vehicle break-in was reported on Prentice Road.
• Another vehicle break-in was reported on Prentice Road.
• A vehicle break-in was reported on Grant Avenue.
• A vehicle break-in was reported on Locksley Road.
• A vehicle break-in was reported on Central Street.
• A 76-year-old man from Framingham was barred from Wegmans after trying to steal 99 gift cards and a “mousse truffle” product. Management declined to press charges. The cards had no value because they weren’t activated yet. The man was banned from all Wegmans stores for two years.
