NEWTON, MA — Just two weeks before the nomination paper due date, over 50 people, including 19 who are not currently in office, have indicated they plan to run in the 2021 election.

Every two years, the entire 24-member Newton City Council is up for reelection. Ward councilor candidates must fill out the nomination forms with 50 signatures from residents and councilor at large candidates must gather 150 signatures. Nomination papers must be turned in by Tuesday, July 27.

Twenty people are running for the city's sixteen councilor at large seats, 16 of which are incumbents, and 11 people are on the ballot to fill the eight School Committee seats.
