NEWTON, MA - Five Newton firefighters received promotions at a ceremony at City Hall Tuesday.

Surrounded by family and friends, the five were granted their new rankings by Chief Bruce Proia and Mayor Setti Warren in the City Council Chambers.

Deputy Chief Gino Lucchetti, C-2 Group 3, was promoted to assistant chief; Captain Mike McNamara, E-4, was named deputy chief; Lt. Greg Gentile, E-2, received the rank of captain; and firefighters Joe Fiore, L-2, and Phil McCully, E-3, were promoted to lieutenant.

Last week the Newton Fire Department was rated a Class 1 agency, the highest possible ranking from the Insurance Service Organization.

It is the newest department in the nation, and fourth in Massachusetts, to receive the grade.
