Newton First Responders Pay Tribute to Fallen State Trooper

Police and firefighters gathered at an overpass to honor Trooper Thomas Clardy as he was brought home.

NEWTON, MA - First responders from Newton joined a horde of Massachusetts police officers and firefighters paying their respects to State Trooper Thomas Clardy on Thursday.

Clardy was killed Wednesday after a speeding car crashed into his cruiser during a routine traffic stop on the Mass. Pike. David Njuguna, the driver of the car that hit him, has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stay within marked lanes.

Police are also pushing to immediately suspend Njuguna's license.

Clardy left behind a wife and six children.

Today, first responders from several police and fire departments turned out to honor the fallen trooper as his body was escorted back to his hometown of Hudson.

As the escort passed under an overpass, first responders turned on their lights and exited their vehicles.
