NEWTON, MA â Happy Decemember. Wondering when the city's lighting of the holiday trees begins? Wonder no more. Each year the color and decoration pops up as part of the traditions across the villages. All the pretty lights are up you say? Well, not all of them. Tonight, December 7 there's one more holiday lighting party in the Garden City. If you're planning on going send us a photo to jenna.fisher@Patch.com and we'll include it in a photo gallery.

Thursday, Dec. 7:
Beginning at 6 p.m.: The folks at City Hall will light up the place and there will be music and hot chocolate. Stacey Peasley Band â an award-winning band will play holiday favorites in the War Memorial Auditorium. Outside on the front steps of City Hall enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of Newton Community Pride, or samples of Hood egg nog. Grab a free glow-in-the-dark necklace and watch a special holiday âRockettesâ performance by the Creative Dance Steps Studio. The Grande Finale? Mayor Setti Warren flips the switch (for the last time) turning the grounds into a twinkling wonderland.

This year Village Bank is hosting a toys for tots drive. They're calling it "stuff a cruiser." Anyone who wants to participate should bring an unwrapped gift. There will also be a donation spot for Newtonâs Food Pantries.

Aren't their more events? You are correct. On Dec. 3 there were two other events in town (yep, you missed them). The folks at the Wabban Improvement Society held their community sing along with a donated tree that they lit up and then there was the Coletti-Magni Park in Nonantum.
