Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston fired Francis X. Rivers and has hired an outside firm to investigate the allegations.

NEWTON, MA – The chief financial officer of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston has been ousted following allegations of financial misconduct.

According to a Boston Globe report, the Newton organization announced the firing of its CFO August 18 in a letter to donors, and he was later identified by the publication as Francis X. Rivers.

An outside firm has been hired to investigate Rivers' alleged improprieties, but the group has not disclosed how much money may be missing, the Globe reported.

The report stated that so far, the issues stem from how funds were reported in the organization's operating accounts and the endowment account.

According to the Globe, Rivers worked for the group for two years; a background check conducted ahead of his hiring failed to uncover a prior conviction for grand larceny in New York 15 years ago, as he was using a different last name.
