Newton Mayor Walks Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk

Newton's Mayor Setti Warren is raising money in honor of his close friend.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren is hitting the path in the upcoming Boston MarathonÂŽ Jimmy Fund Walk in honor of his close friend, Angela Palmer, who is being treated at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for Stage IV brain cancer.

According to an announcement, he is co-captaining the team, called Setti Warren’s Team, with Angela’s husband and close friend, Patrick Palmer. Together, they will be walking to raise money to support Angela’s care and cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The mayor’s looking to raise $10,000 and recruit 100 members to his team for the Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Warren adds that participating in this walk is important because it’s the nation’s largest single-day fundraiser, whose mission is to raise money for pediatric and adult patient care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Mayor Warren witnessed first-hand the treatment his close friend has received at Dana-Farber. In 2013, Dana-Farber completed a genetic mapping of Palmer’s brain tumor and identified a genetic mutation. Her trial therapy has been covered through fundraising donations for Dana-Farber.
