Newton Natives Thrive on the Diamond
Clare Doolin and Alexander Venditti, both student-athletes at WPI, received accolades in softball and baseball.
Newton, MA â Two student-athletes from Newton are making waves for their contribution to the baseball and softball teams at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Clare Doolin, a senior pitcher for the Engineers' softball team, was named to the all-Eastern College Athletic Conference first team. Doolin is 16-4 with two saves, nine complete games, a 1.96 ERA and 138 strikeouts through 26 appearances. She also leads the league in strikeouts per game, with 8.19.
Senior first baseman Alexander Venditti, of the Engineers' baseball team, was also named to the all-ECAC first team. Venditti, the ECAC Division III New England Player of the Year, finished the regular season with a .430 batting average, 13 home runs and 55 RBIs. He made just two errors in the field this season, recording a .993 fielding percentage. In addition to his ECAC accolades, he was also a two-time NEWMAC Co-Player of the Week and named an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings DIII First Team All-American.
