Newton Police: 1 Arrest; Sneakers Stolen at Sneaker Convention; Vandalism

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, Aug. 14

  • Police responded to a report of vandalism. The resident said she parked her car in front of 500 Block Comm. Ave, around 5 p.m. When she went back outside she noticed a bottle had been thrown at the rear window of the car.

Incidents, Aug. 15

  • A resident reported that he attended a sneaker convention type gathering at the Boys and Girls Club, where he bought a pair of Nike sneakers. He later put the sneakers aside to play basketball for a short time. When he returned, the sneakers were gone. He contacted the seller of the shoes via Facebook messenger, and will contact police with any findings. The sneakers are red and black Nikes Foamposite Dornbecher.
  • Police were on Washington Street in the area of West Newton Square. Police spotted a 2006 black Ford Fusion pass on Washington Street heading westbound. The operator of the vehicle known to police. It was known that his license was suspended. Police stopped the car. Alex M. O’Connor, 19, 101 Hawthorn St., Newton, was arrested and charged with operating after suspension.
