Newton Police: Arrest for Drunk Driving; Car Break at Chinese Restaurant

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On May 8, police spotted a white truck blocking Wyman Street. Police waited to speak to the operator of the truck, and saw a second pickup truck by Starbucks Coffee. A license plate check came back as revoked and he also had an active warrant out of Boston for operating after suspension. Joseph Michael Brashears-Hunt, 31, 280 Melrose St., Newton, 02465.

On May 8, police took a report at the front desk for a past B&E to a motor vehicle. The person stated that earlier in the day, her 2004 Honda Odyssey, which was unlocked, was left outside of Chung Shin Yuan Restaurant located at 183 California St. Her black H&H tote and black wallet with her license, insurance cards, working permits for her and her daughter and her debit card. They were all taken. She drove home to Malden, where she realized her bag and wallet were missing and then reported the theft to Malden police, who referred her to Newton police.

On May 8, police responded to Needham Street for a possible fight in the vicinity of 80. When police got there, they pulled around a building toward the back, where the fight was reported and saw a black Honda sedan coming toward police at a high rate of speed. Police yelled three times to the driver to stop and pull over and got no response. Police pulled to the middle of the street to attempt to stop the car, and an older white male with dark hair drove toward them. The driver of the black Honda, later identified, drove around police and out of the parking lot. Police continued to the back of the parking lot and met with the reporting party, who stated that an intoxicated man had approached him and began to yell and swear at him. He told him he was calling police, and the man got back into his car and drove off. Officers found the black Honda at McDonald’s. The man had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcoholic beverages. He was unsteady on his feet and seemed confused. Jeffrey Parker, 65, 716 Beacon St., Newton, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.
