Newton Police: Bomb Squad Responds to Village Bank; Larceny at Numerous Businesses

Incidents, June 26
- Police joined several other units to respond to The Village Bank for a suspicious package in front of the bank. Dispatch said that the info was sent via Twitter account approximately an hour prior (8 p.m.) and state that there was a suspicious box with tape around it by the mailbox in front of Village Bank. The sergeant blocked off and secure the area. The State Police Bomb Squad arrived to the scene and were able to confirm that the box contained small, plastic miscellaneous toys and stickers. At approximately 11 p.m. all unit cleared without further incidents.
- Police responded to Del Frisco’s Grille for a report of larceny. A woman said she got to dinner at 6 p.m. and sat at the bar with her friend. She had her purse hung on the back of the bar stool. At some point, someone reached into her purse and took out her wallet. She noticed when she started getting phone calls and emails questioning purchases that were made with her cards.
- Police responded to Berkely St. for a report of vandalism. A woman said that her front driver’s side tire was slashed.
- Police responded to Psychic Advisor for a past breaking and entering. She reported that the previous night, someone entered the businesses by forcing open the rear door.
