Newton Police: Driver Allegedly Speeds Up Toward Pedestrians; Stolen Bike; Smashed Windshield

The following are excerpts from the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, Aug. 7

  • Police were parked at the intersection of Needham Street and Charlemont Street conducting crosswalk enforcement. Around 4:21 p.m., police spotted two female pedestrians walking southbound in the crosswalk toward the police. While the pedestrians were in the crosswalk, police spotted a 2005 green Ford Mustang traveling eastbound down Needham Street past Charlemont Street. The vehicle accelerated through the crosswalk without stopping for the two pedestrians. Police pulled the car over. Matheus Henrique-Felici Lopes, 26, 15 Hayes St., Framingham, was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Incidents, Aug. 8

  • Police took a report for malicious damage to a motor vehicle. When police got to Falmouth Road, they spoke to the complainant that sometime during the night, someone broke the rear windshield to his car while it was parked in the driveway.

  • Police took a report for a stolen license plate on Lexington Street. A driver said that sometime during the night someone stole the rear license plate from her vehicle while it was parked in the rear lot at Lexington Street.
  • A resident reported that around 1 p.m., he locked his orange Trek mountain bike at a rack on Union Street. When he went back at 7 in the morning to get it, it was gone.
