Newton Police Log: 2 Charged with Shooting Man with BB Gun; Church Glass Smashed; 5 Vehicle Break-Ins on Cochituate Road
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Mon., Oct. 27
- Three vehicles were broken into on Cochituate Road and loose change was stolen.
- Copper sheets and about 50 pounds of copper nails were stolen from a business on Pearl Street.
- Loose change was stolen from a vehicle on Wood End Road.
- Loose change was stolen from a vehicle on Cochituate Road.
- Two pairs of sunglasses and an iPod Touch were stolen from a vehicle on Dickerman Road.
- Someone threw a rock through a door and an office at the Newton Highlands Congregational Church.
- Two credit cards and a can of Altoids were stolen from a vehicle on Cochituate Road.
- Three vehicles were smashed in the Watertown Street area. Someone apparently poured paint remover on one.
- A 17-year-old male from Waltham and a 22-year-old man from Newton were charged with firing a BB gun at a man on Ward Street. The victim said they were in a black Mercedes sport utility vehicle that pulled up to him and one of them fired two shots; one hit the victim in the shoulder. He did not require medical attention. The victim said he thought it was a real gun at first. The teen and man were charged with assault and battery and discharging a BB gun in a public way.
Tue., Oct. 28
- A wallet was stolen from a vehicle.
- Loose change was stolen from two vehicles on Forest Street.
- A vehicle was broken into on Wood End Road.
