Newton Police Log: Hacking at Library, OUI Crash, Ceramic Cat Stolen

Aug. 22

  • A woman reported two Prada handbags, a Tiffany plate, and a silver candle snuffer were stolen from her home on Bowdoin Street.

Aug. 23

  • A 23-year-old man was charged with breaking and entering and stealing drugs for trying to rob a business on North Street.

  • A man reported his skim board was stolen from the roof rack of his car. The board has a checkered design and says “skim lizard.”
  • Robert Joyce, 46, of Malden, was charged with OUI and a lane violation after police said he crashed on Jackson Road.
  • Someone stole a wheel from an Infiniti G37 on Washington Street.
  • A black girls Trek bike was reported stolen from a Hull Street residence.

Aug. 25

  • A man called police, saying a patron at the Newton Free Library on Homer Street was trying to hack into the computer system. He said he confronted the man and later got into a scuffle with him and was hit in the face.
  • A woman reported someone stole a “welcome” sign and a green ceramic cat from her porch on Watertown Street.
