Newton Police Log: iPhone Stolen at Newton North; Drunk Driver Allegedly Flees Crash Scene; Granddaughter-in-Jail Scam

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Wed., Oct. 29

  • A student reported her iPhone was stolen at Newton North High School.

Thur., Oct. 30

  • Five vehicles were broken into on Park Street. An iPod was stolen from one of the vehicles.
  • A leaf blower was stolen from a garage on Simpson Street.
  • A woman in her 20s reportedly stole a cardigan from a shop on Boylston Street.
  • Jayson Allison, 34, of Brockton, was charged with OUI, leaving the scene of a crash, and a lane violation. Police said he was driving a Chevrolet Silverado truck and hit another vehicle at Washington and Beacon Streets at about 9 p.m. then fled the scene. Officers said they tracked him down and arrested him near Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

  • A woman on Nehoiden Road said someone called her claiming to be her granddaughter, who said she needed money after she had been arrested. The woman ended up sending an undisclosed amount of money to the scammer.
  • A 29-year-old man from Roxbury was charged with stealing two packs of cigarettes from a store on Route 128 south.
