Newton Police Log: Slashed Tires, NSTAR Scam, Warrant Arrest
The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Mon., Oct. 6
- A woman said someone unscrewed the fog light of her Ford Escape and smashed it on Farwell Street.
Tue., Oct. 7
- A construction worker said someone slashed the tires of his trailer.
- Joseph Hoffman, 32, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant.

- A man on Sumner Street reported he was the victim of an NSTAR scam. The caller said he was from the company and needed to collect an unpaid balance or service would be shut off within an hour. The caller told the man to go to CVS and but a prepaid card. Police determined it was a scam.
