Newton Police: Man Steals Hennessy Twice from the Package Store in One Day

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, June 2

  • Police were traveling on Dearborn Street when a red Toyota began making a right turn onto Dearborn Street. Police immediately recognized the operator. Police pulled the vehicle over, and the driver ignored it and drove another 100 feet to his driveway, where he parked and got out. Joseph Russell Hoffman, 33, 46 Dearborn St., Newton, was arrested and charged for failure to stop for an offer, and operating after a suspended license.

Incidents, June 3

  • Police spotted a Toyota Camry approaching them from the rear on Walnut Street, northbound. Police turned on the radar and confirmed the speed at 43 mph in a 25 mph zone. Once the Toyota passed, police pulled the car over. Running the information of the driver, it revealed that the operator’s license had been suspended since May 2015 due to failure to appear in Tennessee. Dawas Hussain Almakakhalas, 19, 471 Washington St., Brighton, MA, was arrested and charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, speeding, unlicensed operation.

  • Police responded to 200 Boylston St., Wegmans, for a larceny that had just occurred.Police spoke with loss prevention, who stated that a large black male wearing a tan sweater and black pants and black shoes walked in, stuffed two bottles of Henessy Cognac into his pants pockets and fled the store. The store has the incident on video. The suspect has two previous larcenies.
  • Police responded again to Wegmans for a larceny. A large black man wearing the same clothing described in the incident above came into the store and stuffed two bottles of Hennessy Cognac into his pants and fled without paying. Loss prevention said the male had been involved in several larcenies at the store in the past, including the one above. He allegedly got into a 2015 Toyota Camry in the parking spot just outside the store.
