Newton Police: Middle School Boy Says Car Pulled Up, Man Asked If He Wanted Candy

The following is an excerpt from the Newton police log.

On May 6, police responded to the area of Craft Street for a 13 year old who had reportedly been stopped by two suspicious males in a car. Police searched the area of Craft Street for the car, described as a small black vehicle occupied by two black males. No one was found in the search. A student reported that while walking home alone from the Day Middle School in the area of Craft Street around 2:50 p.m., the small black car was traveling north and pulled up next to him.

The boy said the passenger rolled down his window and said, “Would you like some candy?” He did not respond and continued to walk southbound on Craft Street and when he reached Washington Street, he called his mother, who notified the police. The passenger was described as a black male in late teens or early 20s, and the student said he never showed him any candy and did not attempt to grab or touch him. The driver was described at a black male, but could not give an approximate age or description. Police told the boy he responded well and to notify his parents or police if he sees the car again.
