According to Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, the shooting was not a robbery attempt and the suspect did not try to gain entry to the building. At the same time, the act was not random, Apotheker said, as the suspect deliberately walked up to the glass door with intentions of shooting through it.

The initial description of the suspect yesterday was that he was a white male, 5'10"-6' tall wearing jeans, dark sneakers and a jacket over a blue hoodie sweatshirt. However, security camera images from Cristofori Jewelers show that the suspect was actually wearing a green hoodie.

The incident is still under investigation, Apotheker said. Information is not available as to any relationship between the suspect and the three people that were inside the store at the time of the shooting.

State and local police searched the area near the shooting for quite some time yesterday, Apotheker said, using several K-9 units to try to sniff out the suspect and his gun.
