Newton Police: Tedeschi's Robbed by 2 Masked Men, Employee Hit in Head With Gun; Cat Saved from Wall of House

The following are excerpts from the Newton Police Department's log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, July 9

  • Police, along with the Newton Fire Department, responded to Boylston Street for a report of a cat stuck in a wall. A woman stated that she heard her cat meowing from inside the living room and believes he fell from an open crawl space on the second floor. At that time, NFD cut a hole in the living room wall with permission, however could not see or hear the cat. The fire department then went back to the second floors crawl space where they could see the cat climbing back toward the hole, and freed himself.
  • Police were dispatched to 1639 Centre St. (Tedeschi’s), for a male party with a laceration to the head. When police got there, a man was sitting down holding his head. When asked what happened, he said that two people came into the store and robbed him. He said that two black males wearing masks entered the store and demanded he open the cash register. He described the men as 20-25 in age, around 6’ to 6’3” tall. The two unidentified males took money from the drawer and then told him to open the safe. They took money from the safe and during the altercation showed a black handgun and struck the left side of the employee’s head with the firearm. The employee says he lost consciousness. Newton medics responded and transported him to the hospital. Multiple units combed the area with negative results. After viewing the video, it appears as though the two men entered the store using the door closest to Walnut Street. The video reveals they approached the building from the back of the parking lot. Upon entering, the first suspect, wearing a black hat with large white lettering spelling DOPE on it, a white shirt and rag tied over his face, black sweatshirt and dark pants, came into the store displaying a black handgun and began talking to the employee. He reached over and grabbed the money from next to the cash register. The second suspect, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with hood pulled over his face and a surgical type mask, came in and jumped over the counter and began taking money out of the lottery safe located under the counter. Suspect one took the money from the register and came to the back side of the counter and had the employee open the cash register. The suspects then took the money out of the cash drawer and appeared to go through the lottery safe. The first suspect then struck the employee in the head with the firearm and the two suspects fled out the same door. They walked toward the lot toward Centre Street and Route 9.
  • Police arrested Murilo Debrito, 21, 368 Elliot Terrace, Newton, for a default warrant out of Brookline District Court for possession of a class B drug
