Newton Police: Teens Pass Out at Traffic Light, Driver Arrested at the Hospital

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, Aug. 10

  • Police responded to Woodward Street for a report of a past breaking and entering to a residence. The owners said she was out of her home between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. When she got home, she went to her basement to the back door, and noticed it was open. She then saw damage to the frame. The frame was cracked and splintered, which showed forced entry. The homeowner was advised to report to police if she notices anything missing.

Incidents, Aug. 13

  • Police responded to Crafts Street at Watertown Street to check on the well being of a motorist. A caller said that two males were passed out in a red minivan stopped at a green light. When police arrived, they spotted the Honda stopped at the light on Crafts Street at the corner of Watertown Street. The vehicle’s brake lights were on. When police approached the driver’s side door, they saw two males slumped forward and appeared unconscious. The transmission was still in the drive position, and the engine was running. The driver’s side window was rolled down halfway, and police smelled the pungent odor of marijuana. Police tried to wake the two men by banging on the window and yelling loudly. It was unsuccessful. Police opened the door and moved the transmission to park. Police also spotted three plastic bags containing green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana inside the door pocket. Both occupants had a pulse and were breathing. Medics were sent to the scene and the 19-year-old driver was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The driver, 19, from Waltham, was charged with OUI (liquor), possession of a false RMV document, possession of Class D substance with intent to distribute. The passenger, 19, from Newton, was turned over to a parent who responded to the scene.
