Newton Police: Theft at Athletic Club; Vandalism at Garden City Motor Parts

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Incidents, Aug. 15

  • Police responded to 1089 Washington St., the Beacon Hill Athletic Club, for a report of theft from the locker room around 1:30 p.m. The person responded that a light-skinned Hispanic male came in and asked to use the bathroom, and he directed him to the men’s locker room. Approximately 15 minutes later a club member told him his wallet and iPhone were stolen from his locker. The reporting person said he never saw the Hispanic male leave and believes he exited through the back door. Police spoke to a person at the gym who said he arrived there around 12:15 p.m. and thinks his belongings were stolen between 1:10 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. It included an iPhone 5, wallet with ID, credit cards and cash. Another male said his belongings had been gone through, but nothing was missing.

Incidents, Aug. 16

  • Police responded to Boylston Street to serve an arrest warrant. The probation warrant was issued out of Suffolk Superior Court. Charles T. Lane, 44, 967 Boylston St., Newton, was arrested and charged on a warrant.

  • Police responded to Garden City Motor Parts for a report of vandalism. The building was recently tagged with blue and white graffiti on the east side of the building.
