Newton Police: Two Women Stole $12,000 Worth Of Handbags At Chestnut Hill Mall

Now police are asking for help finding the women who allegedly ran off with multiple bags stolen from Bloomingdales last Monday.

NEWTON, MA — Two women walked into the Chestnut Hill Mall last week and walked out with eight to 10 handbags worth as much as $12,000 from Bloomingdale’s - except they didn't pay for it, said police. Then, they hopped in an SUV and then tore out of the mall parking lot, running a red light.

Now, as they continue their investigation, police are asking for anyone who might know who the women were, to report it to the police.

The two were captured on mall security cameras as they walked out of the store and as they ran to a black SUV in the parking lot, said Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker.

The police spokesperson said once the women got into the SUV, they drove out of the lot quickly, almost hitting another car in the lot. Instead of stopping at the red light at the mall's entrance the car drove through the light, cutting in front of westbound traffic on Route 9 before turning east on the busy road.

Police said when they contacted the owner of the the SUV, that owner reported it stolen. Newton police are looking for two women, described as black women, one with blue jeans, a black top and other with a white dress.

"You can see on the surveillance video they get into a car and flee, cutting across route 9 and disregards the red light coming out a mall, and it goes into westbound traffic crossing eastbound," said Apotheker.
