Sunday: Newton PD's 'BBQ, Badges and Ball'

The first annual event is part of Newton's commitment to strengthening its citizens' relationship with those who protect and serve.

NEWTON, MA – Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Police Chief David MacDonald have partnered to host the first annual "BBQ, Badges and Ball" event on Sunday.

The event is part of the city's larger efforts to build relationships between Newton's citizens and officers who serve the community.

"Newton is building on a commitment to and tradition of community policing by strengthening the community's connection with the police officers who work hard to keep our neighborhoods safe," according to an announcement on the city's website.

In addition to food, music and games for all ages, the event will include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for kids ages 14 or older to play with Newton police officers.

All are invited to attend "BBQ, Badges and Ball" on Sunday, Sep. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Newton Centre Playground. In the event of rain, it will be moved to Newton North High School.
