NEWTON, MA - The South Pacific Chinese Restaurant is officially gone.
The sign advertising the restaurant, which stood as a landmark at Newton's Four Corners for decades, was removed Tuesday.
Newton Police tweeted out pictures of the sign being hauled off by a crane, with a caption lamenting the loss of the iconic sign.

The South Pacific Chinese Restaurant closed in 2012 after a series of cryptic signs were hung on the front door. The first read, "South Pacific has closed its doors. Thank you for your patronage all these years"; but a follow-up claimed they were merely closed for renovation.
Sadly, the creation of the South Pacific memorial page confirmed patrons' worst fears; it had in fact closed for good.

The memorial page is still active almost four years later, most recently posting in January to recommend a Chinese restaurant in Nashua, NH.
